Lorraine Reinbold

英語教育専攻では、高等学校までに身につけた英語の知識を、アカデミックな英語運用力へと発展させることを目標としています。英語を学ぶだけでなく、英語を用いて考え、伝え、自らの考えを明確に表現できる力を育てることを重視しています。そのため、本専攻は1年次から多くの科目の授業を英語で行っています。

本専攻の教育プログラムは、二つの柱を軸に構成されており、学生は自分の進路に応じていずれかの道を選ぶことができます。

一つ目の柱は教員養成です。英語運用力の向上に加え、英語教育に関する理論的理解を深めることで、英語教員を目指す学生を育成しています。これまでにも、多くの卒業生が各都道府県の教員採用試験に合格しています。

二つ目の柱は、英語を実社会で活用する進路です。英語を用いて、ビジネス分野、サービス業、地方自治体など、英語が求められるさまざまな専門分野で活躍することを目指す学生を支援しています。

学生は、日常的なコミュニケーションとしての英語と、プレゼンテーションや学術的な文章作成、専門的な場面で求められるアカデミックな英語との違いを、各科目の学修を通して学びます。日本語においても、友人との会話やメッセージで使う表現と、学術・ビジネス・公的な場で用いる表現が異なるように、英語にも場面に応じた使い分けがあります。4年次のゼミナールでは、これまでの大学での学びを統合し、研究活動に取り組み、卒業論文を執筆することで、学修の集大成とします。教員は、学生一人ひとりの学修過程を丁寧に支援しています。

また、本専攻には「ランゲージ・コモンズ」があり、授業時間だけでは十分とは言えない英語使用の機会を補う場として、学生が積極的に英語を使うことができる環境を整えています。学生リーダーのサポートのもと、英語での交流を通じて、1年次から4年次までの学生同士がつながり、実践的な英語力を養っています。

本専攻での学びを通して、批判的に考える力、効果的に伝える力、そして学んだことを実社会で生かす力を身につけ、卒業後の進学や職業生活に向けた確かな基盤を築いていただければと思います。

Department of English Education: Message

In the Department of English Education, our goal is to help students develop the English knowledge they acquired through high school into academic English proficiency. We focus on learning to use English to think, communicate, and express one’s own ideas clearly in another language. For this reason, many English courses are conducted in English from the first year.

The educational program of this department is built on two main pillars offering students a choice between the two pathways. The first pillar is teacher education. We prepare students to become English teachers by developing their English proficiency and their understanding of theories of English language education. Many graduates have successfully passed prefectural teacher recruitment examinations. The second pillar supports students who want to use English in the business sector, service industry, local governments, and other professional fields where English is essential.

Students learn to distinguish between everyday communicative English and the academic English required for presentations, academic writing, and professional communication. Just as in Japanese, there is language used casually with friends and in messages, and language used more formally in academic, business, and public settings. In the senior seminar, students bring together what they have learned throughout their university studies and conduct research and write a graduation thesis as the culmination of their academic work. Faculty members support students in their learning processes.

The department also has the Language Commons, a space where students are encouraged to actively use English, since classroom learning alone is not sufficient for language production. With support from student leaders, students communicate in English and form connections with students from the first through fourth years.
