Message to all incoming students

2020/04/01

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and welcome all incoming students to Hakuoh University.

In light of the ever developing world-wide pandemic of COVID-19, Hakuoh University, after much deliberation, has made the difficult situation to cancel this year’s entrance ceremony. While this decision was not easy to make, it was an important one. Life is filled with both good and bad, peaks and valleys, and while this period we are going through may be a difficult one, we know that there are still many days of happiness and joy ahead of us.

Hakuoh University has its roots firmly in the realm of Liberal Arts, where we hope to instill all of our students the ability to think outside the box, and to be able to take action to address the many problems they may encounter in the future. Hakuoh University has a broad range of curriculums outside of Liberal Arts, including English, Information Sciences and Sports, and hope that students will be able to enjoy a full and well-rounded academic career.

Hakuoh University places importance on the practical and applied aspects of its curriculum, and hopes students learn how to utilize what they have learned in an increasingly connected 21st century global society. Following the lead of western universities, Hakuoh University has founded an academic environment conducive to applied studies.

I have long held the opinion that there are two kinds of people in this world, people who are hesitant and worrisome, and people who are outgoing and lively. I’m willing to wager that the reason so many graduates of Hakuoh University are welcomed by employers and businesses is because we have so many “outgoing and lively” students. The northern Kanto area of Japan, in which Hakuoh University is located, has a rich history of “lively and outgoing” figures stretching across Japanese history, and we would like to think that this area’s history has had a positive effect on both our institution, and its student body.

Going forward, there are a great many number of things that we as an academic institution need to take into consideration. Amongst those many things,“Future” as well as “Hope” are perhaps the two most important things that we need to think about, especially for us here in the northern Kanto area of Japan. We would like to create the next generation of “outgoing and lively” students, who will one day in the future become leaders and decision makers in this region of Japan. The energy of everyone here is important, and is sure to give us hope in the future.

Once again, on behalf of all faculty and staff at Hakuoh University, allow me to welcome everyone to Hakuoh University. By working together, I know that we will get through this trying and difficult time, and we will surely emerge from this predicament stronger as an institution.
