Visiting Oyama High School

2022/12/06

This past December 6th, five exchange students enrolled at Hakuoh University visited Oyama High School, and each gave a presentation on their own unique perspective of Japan. The six students had been preparing their presentations over the past month, practiced presenting it online and worked hard to each prepare a great speech. On the day of the presentations, the exchange students were asked many different questions by the local high school students, and were able to engage in rich and meaningful inter-cultural communication.

The local high school students were glad to hear the presentations, and said that it was a valuable experience to hear about life and culture outside of Japan. The high school students also said things like "It was good to know that things that are commonplace in Japan can be surprising to Chinese people." "It made me want to go abroad." "I had a a negative perception of study abroad, but I learned that there are good points about study in the world, such as learning about different cultures and interacting with non-Japanese people.”They also commented that they were able to greatly broaden their perspectives on different cultures, which they had been completely unfamiliar with, and that this helped to motivate them to learn more.
